Winter at Pine River Lodge

When winter transforms Vallecito Lake and the San Juan Mountains into a snowy wonderland, Pine River Lodge offers the perfect base for adventure and relaxation. Guests can enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and sledding nearby—or simply play in the snow right around the cabins. For extra fun, we keep a few sleds on hand for guests to borrow, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Vallecito Nordic Ski Trail, just minutes from the lodge, features beautifully groomed cross-country routes. For downhill enthusiasts, world-class skiing awaits within a scenic 1.5-hour drive at either Purgatory Ski Area or Wolf Creek Ski Area. Families can also head into Durango to enjoy the indoor ice rink for another festive winter outing.

After a day of crisp mountain air, return to your warm, fully equipped cabin to relax by the fire or sip cocoa while snow drifts outside. Pine River Lodge is open year-round, with a selection of cozy cabins kept ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Celebrate the holidays in a magical Colorado setting, where snowy days and starry nights make the season unforgettable.
